Tennis · Pickleball · Strength · Recovery — Fabian

Come to the SFTC.

Train the body as the physical system it is…through big mind.

The SFTC, the Sports & Fitness Training Complex, is a training center in Fabian with four tennis courts, a pickleball section, a fitness room built for court athletes, and a lab where every hit, landing and step can be measured. Come play, and see what your game looks like as data.

SFTC Lab Garage · Exhibit A · ball flight

Four shots. Same net, very different physics.

Air drag slows the ball, and spin pushes it sideways through the air (the Magnus effect). Topspin pulls the ball down so a hard, high shot still lands inside the line. Backspin holds a slice up so it floats. These paths are computed, not drawn.

4 courts

Tennis

Four full-size hard courts under the lights. Every court has a T-Sight camera, so a session can end with a map of where each ball landed.

6 courts + 2 experimental

Pickleball

Its own section with its own nets and lines, so pickleball never has to borrow a tennis court. Open play, ladders and drop-in clinics, plus two more courts kept for experimentation.

Strength & conditioning

Fitness room

Platforms, racks and sleds, upstairs next to the café. The programming is built for court athletes: first steps, deceleration, rotation and grip.

Heat, cold, mobility

Recovery

Sauna, cold plunge and a mobility room. Recovery is part of the training plan here, not something you do if there's time left.

Coaches

Six coaches, one shared picture of your game.

Tennis, pickleball, strength and movement coaches work from the same data, so a fix on court and the work in the fitness room point the same way.

  1. Tennis

    Head tennis coach

    Coach name

Runs the tennis program and the performance squad, and reads T-Sight landing maps with players after every session.

Group programs

Train with a group, all over the grounds.

Yoga under the oaks, calisthenics upstairs, balance on the water and on the Wavetrain platform. Every class is built around what the courts ask of your body.

Pavilion · oak grove

Court-side yoga

Hips, spine, shoulders and wrists, the joints racket players overload. Held outdoors at the pavilion and on the grove's rest deck.

Fitness room

Calisthenics in levels

Pull-ups, dips, handstands and levers, taught as graded progressions so you can see where you are and what comes next.

Lab Garage

Balance class

A group circuit on the Wavetrain platform, with each person's sway and recovery time on screen as they work.

Pools

Board balance

Standing and flowing on the surfboards on the pools. The water moves the board, so every position is a balance problem.

Tennis courts

Cardio tennis

A fast drill class set to music. No match play and no partner needed, just a lot of balls and a hard hour.

Pickleball

Pickleball clinics & socials

Clinics by level and round-robin evenings that mix players up. The easiest way into the game for newcomers.

Fitness room · courts

Rotation & footwork

Medicine-ball throws, cable chops, split-steps and lateral bounds: the movements behind the forehand, backhand and serve.

Recovery

Contrast recovery

Sauna, cold plunge and breathwork, guided as a group. A good way to end a league night.

Physio · recovery

Return to play

Small groups run with the physiotherapy offices for people coming back from tennis elbow, ankle sprains and similar injuries.

The SFTC Lab Garage

Instruments on the floor, not in a drawer.

The equipment comes from our sister projects. Members use it during ordinary sessions, not only in special testing slots.

  1. Tennis Tutor

    Vibramaster

A sensor on the racket that records the vibration of every hit and tells you how hard and how cleanly you struck the ball.

  2. Tennis Tutor

    T-Sight

A camera and microphone beside the court that record where each ball lands, then show the pattern on your phone.

  3. Tennis Tutor

    Tosser

A ball machine that places its next ball according to where your last return landed, in Easy, Medium and Hard modes.

  4. Ripwave

    Wavetrain

A platform that tilts back and forth under your feet so you have to keep finding your balance. Used for ankles, knees and footwork.

  5. Hand lab

    Shaky

Grip and wrist exercises on a phone: shake it in a set pattern, and how well each rep matches the pattern decides where a basketball shot goes.

Field notes

Thoughts from between the points.

01e ≈ 0.75

The ball is a spring

A tennis ball dropped from 254 cm has to bounce back to between 135 and 147 cm, so it keeps about three quarters of its speed. The rest becomes heat in the rubber. The strings are a second spring and your arm is a third. A clean hit lines up all three, and a mishit is one of them out of step.

0210 s · 2 min · ∞

Three clocks of fuel

Phosphocreatine powers the first ten seconds of hard effort. Glycolysis covers the next couple of minutes and leaves lactate behind. After that, mitochondria burn fat and sugar with oxygen, slowly but for as long as you like. A point uses the first clock and the rest between points refills it. We plan training around all three.

03~100 ms

Balance is a feedback loop

Your inner ear, eyes and the sensors in your ankles report a sway, and your muscles correct it about a tenth of a second later. That delay can be trained. The Wavetrain platform under your feet makes you practise the correction thousands of times.

0427 bones

The hand is the last joint

Every stroke runs through 27 small bones and the tendons that cross the wrist. Grip strength predicts more than how well you hold a racket. It tracks health across a whole lifetime, so we train it on purpose.
